Tip #1 Consider your family's needs
Does the studio offer convenient class times that fit your schedule? Find out how the school handles enrollment, is it for a fixed time frame, or ongoing? Are there classes offered for younger or older siblings if they become interested in dance? Tip #2 Think about your dancer's goals Decide if you and your dancer are looking for a once or twice per week class, or a greater time and financial commitment by being a part of a competitive or pre-professional program? Does your child want to participate in other activities in addition to dance, or would you prefer to be "all in" with dance? Tip #3 Ask the studio about performances Do all the dancers get to perform in the shows? Do students have to audition for the performances? Does the school offer additional community performances or trips for the children? What does a typical performance cost in terms of costuming, tickets, and other expenses? Get a good idea of what to expect. Tip #4 Learn more about the dress code, if any Some studios require certain dress codes, take the time to learn more and ask questions. Do dress code requirements need to be purchased for the first class? Does the studio offer a small Dancewear Shop for your convenience? How much does the required uniform cost? Tip #5 Does the studio's culture match your values? Does the costumes, music and movements used reflect your family values? Are the children's classes age appropriate? How far do teachers push children's flexibility and training? Are there certain teaching methods you like or don't like? Does the school meet your expectations on diversity and inclusion?
